We are currently searching for photos and other types of memorabilia stored in private collections by descendants of tunnellers, or members of their extended family. These items can be used to help us highlight the vital role Australia’s tunnellers played in the ‘secret war’ fought beneath front lines at Gallipoli, in Egypt, and in France on the Somme and along the Western Front.
An important new book, also titled Mining Mud and Medals, will be launched in June 2017. In addition to commemorating the lives of tunnellers who attended one of the four Schools of Mines established at Creswick, Clunes, Daylesford and Ballarat, it will feature stories of tunnellers who were born and raised within the boundaries of the Ballarat Electorate.
Purchasers of our newly printed 2015 calendar ‘From the Bush to the Battle’ will be helping to raise the vital funds needed to ensure publication of that book.
